Gubernatorial Candidate Unveils Plans to Revive Industries in Edo State

August 9, 20240

Dr. Dennis Osahon Aikoriogie, the gubernatorial candidate of the National Rescue Movement (NRM) in Edo State, has unveiled comprehensive plans to revitalize the industrial sector in the state. Edo State, popularly referred to as a civil service state, has long suffered from the absence of industries and factories, leading to a brain drain of young graduates to other cities.

Dr. Aikoriogie’s administration aims to optimize the state’s abundant resources, such as Bitumen and Gas, to attract foreign direct investment and build factories and industries. This, in turn, will generate employment opportunities for the teeming youth population in the state.

Key areas of implementation outlined by Dr. Aikoriogie include the resuscitation of existing moribund factories in the state through privatization and commercialization processes. This will involve giving preference to wealthy Edo sons/daughters to have a controlling stake, as well as Nigerian and foreign investors with robust Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) commitments.

Additionally, the administration plans to create the Edo Mining Corporation Ltd (EMCL) to coordinate the exploration, licensing, investment, marketing, and export of solid minerals in the state for revenue generation. Stakeholder meetings with multinational companies operating in the state will also be conducted to review their corporate social responsibility and employment policies.

Furthermore, the administration will establish the Edo Timber Processing & Manufacturing Company Ltd (ETPMCL) to create employment opportunities and maximize the value chain of timber resources in the state. Plans for the establishment of a car assembly plant, support for small and medium-scale businesses, and boosting farming and agribusiness are also in the pipeline.

Dr. Aikoriogie’s administration aims to create a robust and attractive business environment in Edo State, empowering the private sector to drive the state economy through enterprise. The establishment of the Edo International Airport and review of the Gelegele-Siluko Seaport policy framework are also on the agenda to cater to the needs of investors and boost industrialization in the state.

Dr. Aikoriogie’s vision for Edo State focuses on wealth creation, job opportunities, and sustainable economic growth through the revival of the industrial sector. The administration’s plans aim to transform Edo State into a hub for industries and manufacturing, attracting both local and foreign investors to contribute to the state’s development.
