Gubernatorial Candidate of NRM Unveils Plans to Improve Healthcare in Edo State

August 8, 20240

The gubernatorial candidate of the National Rescue Movement (NRM) in Edo State, Dr. Dennis Osahon Aikoriogie, has unveiled his plans to improve healthcare in the state if elected into office. With the common saying that health is wealth, Dr. Aikoriogie emphasized the need for the workforce and people of Edo State to be healthy for effective service delivery and optimal return.

Currently, the state of healthcare in Edo State leaves much to be desired. The specialist hospital in Benin City, built and funded by taxpayers’ money, has been outsourced, making it difficult for Edolites to afford the services of a government-built hospital.

Dr. Aikoriogie’s administration aims to address these challenges by implementing key areas of healthcare improvement. This includes the provision of primary healthcare across the 18 local government areas, promoting health needs from health promotion to treatment and rehabilitation. The focus on social equity, state-wide coverage, self-reliance, intersectoral coordination, and people’s involvement in planning and implementation of programs will be paramount.

Furthermore, the administration plans to address the poor distribution of health workers, lack of essential drugs supply, poor quality of healthcare services, and staffing issues in rural areas. Revitalizing all clinics and health centers, revamping General Hospitals, providing ambulances, free medical services for pregnant women/children and the elderly, and improving health insurance accessibility are among the strategies that will be implemented.

Dr. Aikoriogie also plans to ensure sustainable electricity and broadband internet connectivity in all health facilities across the state, as well as regular town hall meetings for progress reviews. The administration is committed to addressing any other needs that may arise during the implementation process.

Overall, Dr. Aikoriogie’s healthcare improvement plan aims to make quality healthcare accessible and affordable for all residents of Edo State, prioritizing the well-being and health of the people.
