Dr Dennis Osahon Aikoriogie, the gubernatorial candidate of the National Rescue Movement (NRM) in Edo State, has unveiled plans to foster a brain economy and tackle unemployment in the state. Embracing the 21st-century concept of a brain economy, which focuses on knowledge, innovation, and human capital to drive economic growth, Dr Aikoriogie’s plans prioritize investments in education, skills development, entrepreneurship, and industry-academia collaboration.
Key areas of implementation include education reform and access, skills development and vocational training, entrepreneurship and innovation, industry-academia collaboration, digital economy and ICT skills, youth empowerment, and support for knowledge workers and professionals.
Dr Aikoriogie aims to implement comprehensive education reform initiatives, expand access to education through scholarship programs, and strengthen technical and vocational education programs. He also plans to promote entrepreneurship, establish innovation hubs, and foster collaboration between educational institutions and industry partners.
Additionally, Dr Aikoriogie will focus on harnessing digital technologies to create job opportunities and stimulate economic growth, promoting digital literacy and ICT skills development. He also plans to empower youth through civic engagement programs and leadership development opportunities.
Support for knowledge workers, professionals, and researchers in various fields will also be provided through research grants, fellowships, and career development programs. Dr Aikoriogie envisions creating a conducive environment for knowledge-based industries to thrive and contribute to the economy of Edo State.
