April 17, 20240

Dr. Dennis Osahon Aikoriogie, the Edo State gubernatorial candidate of the National Rescue Movement (NRM), has outlined his strategy for winning the forthcoming elections in the state without the reliance on a political godfather.

Speaking during a media chat, Dr. Aikoriogie emphasized the importance of grassroots engagement and party structures in securing support from the people of Edo State.

He stated, “Your party faithfuls and party representatives, you set up party structures along the 18 local governments in the state and you galvanise support from the grassroots, going from door to door, selling your manifesto and your policy to the Edo people.” Dr. Aikoriogie highlighted the significance of establishing direct connections with the electorate and earning their trust through genuine engagement.

Asserting the role of the people in the electoral process, he added, “Godfather does not make you governor but the people will.” Dr. Aikoriogie drew parallels with the political landscape of the United States, noting that while American politics lack godfather figures, mentors play a crucial role in guiding aspiring leaders.

His remarks points at a shift away from traditional patronage politics towards a more inclusive and grassroots-focused approach to governance.

As the gubernatorial race in Edo State intensifies, Dr. Aikoriogie’s commitment to engaging directly with the electorate signals a departure from conventional political strategies, positioning him as a candidate focused on empowering the people and fostering genuine representation.
